Fairy tales, graffiti and glittery gold….

Good Morning!!!!

Well, if you’re in my area maybe not a great morning.  The weather is not so nice, but I’m loving the fact that it’s a Snow Day today!  YAY!

You may be wondering what those things have in common. Well, not much at all actually.

If you’re in the area, you’ve most likely heard of The Creative Bride. A few months ago she asked if I would put together some invitations for a few booths she was decorating for local bridal shows.

There were a few different themes for a few amazing venues plus her seriously awesome and extremely original booth!

Check out some of the photos below!

The cream pocketfold and gold was one of my favourite designs and was put together for the Walper in Kitchener, Ontario.  It just had such a romantic feel.  The envelopes had sparkly liners in them with a subtle gold pattern of vintage flowers (LOVE LINERS!).

This graffiti theme was SO much fun and a little more challenging.  🙂  It isn’t often that I have a bride ask for graffiti themed stationery – well let’s say never!  Haha!  The place cards and table names were designed to look like a brick wall with paint splatters and graffiti writing on them.  The invitation, RSVP, and envelope wrap were designed to be a little more modern (note the heart on the envelope wrap with a tattoo vibe).

Total Wedding Awesomeness

Yes, I realize that Awesomeness probably isn’t a word, but that’s ok.  I kind of feel like it is the best way to describe how I spent my Saturday this past weekend!

I was lucky enough to spend the day with The Wedding Ring at their booth at the Total Wedding Show at the International Centre in Mississaugua, Ontario.  (If you aren’t familiar with The Wedding Ring, you should check out their site here -> The Wedding Ring).  They feature all local vendors on their website, have an online community to chat with other brides, publish a magazine twice a year, and are really an all around fabulous group!  I used their site when I was getting married and researching vendors and I just kinda stayed in touch 😉

Here’s a photo of the booth before the show started –

Across from us was this booth ->

Yep, it’s called the Banga Booth!  Photo booths are SO much fun…I’m pretty sure that I can speak for everyone at the Wedding Ring booth (and the brides and grooms who took advantage!) that it added quite a bit of fun to our day!

And this is what you get after you take your pictures….an awesome memory to take home.

Obviously I was caught off guard a couple of times as you can see above…haha!  It was still fun!

Of course you can’t be at a bridal show without seeing some amazing dresses….and this one was my favourites.  🙂

Of course I couldn’t resist taking a picture of the kids and dog on the cat walk!!!!!!  LOVED THIS PART!

Swept Away….

Today is rainy and dreary.  I’m also a little bit sleepy this morning because my wonderful 3 year old decided to wake up a 4am this morning.  Not sure what that’s all about, but here’s hoping it doesn’t happen again!!!

If you’ve read my blog before, you may have seen a post or two about wedding photos in the rain. Today I’m going to show you a few more amazing shots!

They say pictures are worth a thousand words, right? The thing is that every one of the photos I’m posting today left me speechless.

This photo was taken by The über talented Angela Smith of Angela Smith Photography. I seriously can’t get enough of her work and this particular picture stopped me in my tracks!! This photo is from an engagement session and I think it looks like it should be in a magazine!

Rain, rain, don’t go away quite yet……

Sounds odd to say, right? Especially on your wedding day?

The thing is that if you have a super fabulous photographer, then you are in luck. Yes, I know getting wet can be a little frustrating when you’re hair is done, make up is done, and you’re probably wearing the most beautiful gown you’ll wear in your life. The fact is that the memories you can capture with a little rain are phenomenal.

Take these photos for example ->;;;

Are you in love with the colourful umbrellas as much as I am?

Photographers are like artists…teditions the best lighting to take your pictures in and can edit your photos to create the most amazing memories of your wedding day!

Can you imagine how perfect the timing had to be to get this one???

I’ve shown you this one before, but I LOVE IT!

And if you’re a prepared bride, you may end up with some pictures of matching rain boots, although mis-matched is more fun in my humble opinion!!!!!

I hope I haven’t overwhelmed you with pictures, but I can’t get enough of wedding day shots with rain.

Have a fabulous day! (even though it’s miserable out!!)

Wildflowers and burlap

Well, I’m back from vacation, back to the grind…and to start the week I am SUPER excited about sharing my friend Jackie’s wedding invitations with you!

I was thrilled when Jackie asked me to design her wedding stationery earlier on this year.  Honestly though, I was a little nervous as well because I just wanted to make sure she was happy!

Jackie was having an intimate lakeside wedding in Ontario and wanted her wedding stationery to match her vision with wildflowers and the colour of burlap incorporated into the design so here is what we came up with:

Jackie wanted to put together something special for her guests as favours and came with with the idea of a family recipe.  I designed the cards to match her stationery, which she attached to a little burlap sack with some ribbon and they turned out so adorable.

Jackie is a local florist (http://www.flowerstudiodesigns.ca/) so I knew her bouquets and arrangement would reflect her personality perfectly.

The brides bouquet……..

Jackie’s photographer is the extremely talented Angela Smith of Angela Smith photography and you can see her full post on Jackie’s wedding here.  (Ange was my wedding photographer as well!)

Thank you again Jackie for letting me play such a small part in your day!  I wish you and Craig the best!!!!!!!

Not so traditional wedding photos……

Happy Wedding Wednesday!!!!!!

So, apparently my love for all things wedding has rubbed off on my husband as he brought this video to my attention on the weekend.  A friend of his from work was at this wedding and helped choreograph this photo shoot!

The Dundas and Yonge intersection in Toronto is also known as a “scramble intersection”.  This means that once every cycle, traffic stops in all four directions leaving the intersection clear for pedestrians to cross any way they want.

This couple (and their entourage) took advantage and had to perfectly time out every trip into the intersection with their photographer and a couch in tow.  The results are some original wedding photos.

This picture is from the photographer’s website – amazing!!!!

See the video here->

Have a fabulous day!!!!!!!!

I’ve got to throw in one more romantic pic for you……

You can’t tell me those didn’t deserve to be posted.  I LOVE how creative photographers can be and when they have a couple who is up for anything you get amazing photos!

Well done brides, grooms, and super talented photographers! <- this is why you should ABSOLUTELY be picky with your wedding photographer!  You can never retake these photos.  Make them awesome!

Rain doesn’t have to be a bad thing at your wedding….

It’s been over a month since my last post and I am feeling super guilty here!  Things have been crazy busy in the Uptown Designs Studio (exciting!!), add to that my three year old getting his tonsils&adenoids out and I’m a tad behind on the blogging front.

Today is a gloomy day.  It’s cloudy and rainy and I thought today would be the perfect day to highlight how awesome rain can be on your wedding day!  I realize that a rainy day isn’t exactly the wedding day most brides dream of, but things happen.  You can’t control the weather so why not make the most of it…and the right photographer can capture some amazing memories for you!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a perfect example of how amazing rain can be for your photos!  Breathtaking…that’s the only word that comes to mind when I look at this photo!

How about this couple?!?!?!

I don’t know them, but I think I love them.  I mean, not everyone would agree to going out on a lake in a rainstorm on the wedding day, right?

The other thing about rainy days is the RAIN BOOTS!  You can colour coordinate them if you know there’s a possibility of showers.

Love the different colour boots in this pic!

And I don’t really think you can go wrong with matching pink boots!

While things may not always go your way on your wedding day, it will absolutely be a day you will remember for the rest of your life so HAVE FUN!

I’ll be posting some of my recent work later on this week so stay tuned!

Spring has sprung…..

Wasn’t it two weeks ago that I was longing for beach weather?  I think my wish must have been granted because it is like summer here.  IN CANADA.  IN MARCH.  Can you believe it?

Spring is definitely here and hopefully it’s here to stay!  This weather is definitely getting me all giddy for spring, which also brings some awesome outdoor wedding and engagement shoots!

Take this one for example.

Amazing, right?  Romantic, breathtaking, dreamy.  All I know is that I am in love with this shoot taken at a farm where the groom to be spent much of his childhood.  It’s a perfect backdrop for a gorgeous couple.  I know this much:  with engagement photos this beautiful I’ll be keeping an eye out for their wedding photos so keep your eye out!

Hope you’re enjoying the summer like weather!
