Irish car bomb cupcakes? I think so!!!

Hello and Happy Friday!!!

Long time no read, right?  Yup.  I have been slacking.  Maybe slacking isn’t the right word.

The thing is…I promised to post this blog back at the beginning of February.  And yes, that is almost two months ago.  Where has the time gone?!?!?!  You see, things have been super busy in the Uptown Designs studio, which is awesome for me!  Unfortunately busy in the studio = taking a bit of an unintentional hiatus on the blog front.

I have had the pleasure of meeting with some pretty phenomenal couples and design some really amazing stationery for weddings coming up this year (I CAN’T wait to share some of these with you in the coming months!!!!!)

I’m thinking this post may have been worth the wait, but I’ll let you all be the judge of that.

At the end of January, I was working the Wedding Ring booth (www.theweddingring.ca) at the Royal Wedding Show in Guelph and was lucky enough to have a booth directly behind Kelly Prince, Owner of Candy Coated (www.candycoated.ca).

Why do I say lucky?  Well….Kelly gave us a few little samples of her cupcakes as a treat – one of those flavours was an Irish Car Bomb treat.  Holy Moly was that tasty!!!!!!  😉  Plus she is one of the sweetest people that I think I’ve met!

This was my favourite cake from her booth.20130222-080104.jpg

She had macaroons, cakes, cupcakes, cake pops….

Yes, those are lips and mustaches, which I think would be awesome favours at a wedding!!!!

And a bouquet made out of cupcakes.  Pretty amazing!

I LOVED this cake!  Green, ombre.  Gorgeous!

You can check out her website here – > http://www.candycoated.com as she does so much more than what I have posted today.

I personally want to try out the Corona Lime cupcakes!!!!!!

All in all, Kelly is fabulous and if you’re looking for sweets for any event, you should definitely check out her website and facebook page!

Have a fabulous day!!

Fairy tales, graffiti and glittery gold….

Good Morning!!!!

Well, if you’re in my area maybe not a great morning.  The weather is not so nice, but I’m loving the fact that it’s a Snow Day today!  YAY!

You may be wondering what those things have in common. Well, not much at all actually.

If you’re in the area, you’ve most likely heard of The Creative Bride. A few months ago she asked if I would put together some invitations for a few booths she was decorating for local bridal shows.

There were a few different themes for a few amazing venues plus her seriously awesome and extremely original booth!

Check out some of the photos below!

The cream pocketfold and gold was one of my favourite designs and was put together for the Walper in Kitchener, Ontario.  It just had such a romantic feel.  The envelopes had sparkly liners in them with a subtle gold pattern of vintage flowers (LOVE LINERS!).

This was an Enchanted Forest theme for the Black Forest Inn

This graffiti theme was SO much fun and a little more challenging.  🙂  It isn’t often that I have a bride ask for graffiti themed stationery – well let’s say never!  Haha!  The place cards and table names were designed to look like a brick wall with paint splatters and graffiti writing on them.  The invitation, RSVP, and envelope wrap were designed to be a little more modern (note the heart on the envelope wrap with a tattoo vibe).

Have a fabulous day and check out the amazing venues, decor/planner, photographer, and of course little old me (stationery) at the links below!

Most importantly….have a fabulous day!!!!!!

Cupcakes and roses…a perfectly delectable combination!

I keep thinking today should be Friday.  This week just seems to be dragging on and on and on….maybe it has something to do with the fact that my head is so stuffy I feel like I’m living in a daze.  Haha!

The weather has gotten quite a bit cooler this week and sweater weather is definitely on it’s way!  (I kinda love sweater weather because that means it’s SOUP weather – I LOVE soup!)

My husband on the other hand love anything with sugar, which brings me to the whole theme of this particular post.

CUPCAKES.

Actually…it’s more like cupcakes + flowers = the most delectable centre pieces I have ever come across.

How gorgeous is this mantle?  I know – no cupcakes, but those are on the tables.  There’s no use wasting yummy goodness on a mantle, right?!

I came across this wedding while reading Glamour and Grace’s blog. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you probably should! Anyway…..after glimpsing this picture, I knew I had to see more. As if this little cake (or in this case cupcake) topper of a bride and groom on a bicycle isn’t cute enough, wait until you see the way this bride incorporated dessert and flowers into her centrepieces!

Just like most of us, this particular bride was trying to stick to her budget, which isn’t always easy when you’re planning a wedding!

She stuck to her guns and got seriously creative.  She found a way to incorporate her desserts and flowers into her centrepieces.  She enlisted the help of her friends to scour the state for Opulent Treasures cupcake stands and with the help of her florist and baker, they came up with these scrumptious centrepieces.

I hope I haven’t made you too hungry this morning…

For the love of cake!!!!

If you’ve read my blog before, you may know that my husband has a serious sweet tooth.  Last fall I was in charge of dessert for our family Thanksgiving at my mom’s place in Bayfield Ontario.  I baked a a carrot cake and a cheesecake the day before we were heading up there.  By the time we left the house, there was only half of a carrot cake left…my wonderful husband ate almost half of the entire cake!!  At least the cheesecake was huge.  Hahaha!

This post is dedicated to his sweet tooth!

Options for your wedding cake are endless.  The only limitation really is your imagination…and finding the right bakery/cake artist!

I love the stripes on this cake!!!!!!

This cake is understated, but I am thinking that it would take some serious talent to design!

This cake is super cute and was designed for the wedding of some self proclaimed nerds!  Love it!

As with anything wedding related, take your time and make sure you find the right person to bring your personality into every aspect of your wedding!

Pretty Pink peonies

The sun is shining today and it looks beautiful out.  Keep in mind that I said ‘looks’…too bad it’s about -18C right now with the wind chill, but at least the sun is out!!!

The weather has been just kind of blah recently.  There is no other way to describe it.  Snow, rain, ice, wind, repeat.  That’s kind of what winter has been like here in Southwestern Ontario this year…in one word = bipolar.  I’m longing for hot summer days, a warm breeze, the smell of flowers and days at the beach.  One can day dream, right?

Well, I certainly have been dreaming…and searching blogs for some perfect summer wedding  ideas and this one is at the top of my list.

If you’ve read my blog before, you probably already know that peonies are one of my favourite flowers.  These sweet smelling blooms emulate femininity and romance and this entire shoot is inspired by these little beauties.

This gorgeous dessert table certainly embodies the flower it was designed to represent.  The entire table looks soft and inviting…just like the blooms.

“Juli of One Sweet Girl dreamed up this concept and worked with Virginia of The Bouquets of Ascha Jolie and Steve of Steve Koukoulas Photography to create a pink peony wonderland.” From the Polka Dot Bride

Have a fabulous day!

Who doesn’t love cake????????

Mmmmmmmmmm cake.  I for one love a good piece of cake every once in a while.  Notice the “once in a while”!  My husband on the other hand could probably eat a whole cake in one sitting.  That’s right folks.  In fact, I once made a carrot cake for Thanksgiving dinner at my mom’s house and somehow over half of the cake disappeared before we even left!  Worst part?  He doesn’t even gain a pound!!!!  Hahaha!

Onto the good stuff….

I mentioned in a post last week that it was my husband’s birthday in January and how excited I was about his cake, right?  Well…here it is – Sons of Anarchy with Jax Teller on the front!!!

{Don’t worry…I’m posting some actual WEDDING cakes too!}

Made by Candy Wishes and Sugar Dreams

That’s pretty awesome, right?  My friend Jen Scott, owner of Candy Wishes and Sugar Dreams designed this cake for my hubby’s birthday and it was absolutely perfect!  She is one talented woman…let me tell you!

Here are just a couple of my favourite wedding cakes that she’s done.  I kind of love the bling on this cake.  🙂

Love the idea of the cake AND the packaged cupcakes ready for your guests to take home!

Jen is super talented and this is a tiny display of what she can do for you! Think chocolates, cake push pops (YES I SAID PUSH POPS!), truffles, cookies, and of course CAKES!

Check out her website here for her full portfolio of amazingness!!!!!!  You can also check her out on facebook!  Like her page before Valentine’s Day and you might just win some truffles or a cookie bouquet people!!!

Have I made you hungry yet????????

Have an amazing weekend!

Hearts a plenty – Inspired by V-Day

I can’t believe it’s Thursday already!  I’ve totally been slacking on the blogging front over the past week or so as I was planning a little fete for my hubby at a local restaurant.  Including a SAMCRO(Sons of anarchy) cake that was seriously amazing (will post pics)!!

That post will come in a few days, but this post I am dedicating to my love of pink, hearts, and the little details.  What are we talking about here?  V-day!  Yep…Valentine’s day is coming up soon and I personally am a sucker for Valentine’s day!  I truly am a lover of this holiday.  Really!  For the record, that does not mean that I want chocolates and flowers as  I personally would prefer a pretty bouquet from the farmers market on some random day than Valentine’s day.  🙂  Simple!

I do however love the little details that can be incorporated into a Valentine’e day wedding!

One great example is this picture below!  A group shot of all of your friends and family releasing red heart balloons on your wedding day.  Cute photo op, eh?  Yep, thought you may agree!  🙂

Of course there are so many other ways to incorporate hearts in a subtle way…

And the best part?  These little cuties are totally DIY – if you have some extra time on your hands!

Of course you can’t forget the food!  I for one wouldn’t like a heart shaped cake, but I thought this was a super cute cake idea.

Check out the entire dessert table!

Keep it simple and fun.  Of course if you want your venue to look like a sea of red and pink, totally up to you.

Sweet and simple is best in my eyes.  Like these pink peonies.  I LOVE peonies!

Happy Thursday!
